High water levels have led to a new evacuation order in Abbotsford.
Early this morning, the town ordered residents to immediately leave their properties in the Huntingdon Village area.
It includes the entire 2nd Avenue along the north, US borders to the south, Sumas Way to the west and 2nd Avenue to the Southern Rail to the east.
The city of Sumas in the state of Washington recommended that its residents evacuate last night “as a precaution” based on the potential for flooding from the Nooksack River.
The Nooksack River ran across its banks last weekend, contributing to a massive flood in the Sumas Prairie region of Abbotsford.
Sumas Prairie is about 90 square kilometers. The strongest flooding occurred in a former lake bottom on the eastern side of the area.
