“Sister Wives” star Christine Brown is done with her polygamous family.
The 49-year-old said Tuesday that she is ending her 25-year “spiritual union” with Patriarch Kody Brown, which she shares with three other women.
“Kody and I have grown apart and I have made the difficult decision to leave,” Christine, 49, wrote via Instagram.
“We will continue to be a strong presence in each other’s lives as we become parents to our beautiful children and support our wonderful family. At this time, we ask for your grace and kindness as we navigate through this phase of our family.”
Christine has complained about the show – which starts its 16th season later this month – about feeling unsupported by Kody, while his other wives get along well with him.
“I can’t marry Kody anymore,” she admitted during the season 15 finale. “I will not.”
Christine has had six children with Kody since she first entered into his majority marriage in March 1994: Asypen, 26, Mykelti, 25, Paedon, 23, Gwendlyn, 20, Ysabel, 18, and Truely, 11.
She did not say whether the youngest, Truely, will take her to Utah, where she recently said she would move.
Kody, 52, said the breakup was outrageous to him.
“Christine’s decision to leave comes with a great deal of grief. We have had many years together and I have a great deal of respect and admiration for her. Even though we are moving forward on different paths, we will always remain committed parents, ”he wrote on Instagram.
Kody and Christine never married legally, but have had an unofficial relationship, which they have called a “spiritual union.” Kody legally married his first wife Meri Brown in 1990, but they divorced on paper in 2014 so he could legally marry Robyn Brown a few months later. Kody is also with a fourth “wife”, Janelle Brown, with whom he also has an unofficial “spiritual association”.
Robyn Brown remains the only spouse Kody is legally married to.
Christine’s desire to leave Arizona for Utah and her feelings of being ignored by her longtime partner created problems in the family during the recent season of the reality show.
“I’m tired of feeling like I do not matter,” she said. “I’m tired of not having his support when I really need it. I am just tired. I need a partnership. I need something other than this. “
Season 16 of “Sister Wives” will continue to follow Kody and Christine’s stony relationship. The trailer teases the families moving to Flagstaff, Arizona together, but Christine does not.
“Why would I want to live on the same property with a dysfunctional marriage where he has a well-functioning marriage right over there?” she asks during a confession. “Who would ever want to live like that?”
Season 16 of “Sister Wives” premieres Sunday, November 21 at. 22.00 on TLC.
