On November 27, 2017, the engagement between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was announced at 5 o’clock. A few hours later, Prince Charles sat down for breakfast and thought to his wife, Camilla: “I wonder what the kids will look like?”

Camilla was “somewhat surprised” by the question and replied, “Well, absolutely amazing, I’m sure.”

Charles lowered his voice and asked, “I mean, what do you think their children’s complexion might be?”

It says a well-placed source who has contributed to Christopher Andersen’s book “Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan” (Gallery), which was published on 30 November.

But Andersen stops claiming that Charles is the unnamed “senior royal” that Harry and Meghan – whose mother is black and father is white – sensationally accused during their shocking interview with Oprah Winfrey

In the March broadcast, Meghan said there were “concerns and conversations about how dark [her and Harry’s son, Archie’s] skin could be when he was born … Those were conversations the family had with Harry. “

The author presents it as if Charles’ curiosity was seized and distorted by schematic courtiers to give it a racist spin. By the time the repackaged story reached Harry and Meghan’s ears, it had reached the highest toxicity.

Andersen points the finger at a group of senior palace advisers known as “Men in Gray”.

During their interview with Oprah, Harry and Meghan said an unnamed royal family member asked them about their child's skin color. A new book reports that it was Prince Charles who made the comments.

“The question posed by Charles was repeated in a less innocent way in the halls of Buckingham Palace,” Anderson writes, describing the whisper of an elitist clique that the British call “the old boys’ network.” Their gossip focused on how the royals would “look to the rest of the world” when African American blood became part of the mix.

The book also reveals Harry’s frustration after he complained to Charles, who according to another insider told the prince that he was “overly sensitive to the matter.”
This unsympathetic view was shared by William, who allegedly called the skin color comment “tactless” but “not a sign of racism in the family.”

A spokesman for Prince Charles told The Post: “This is fiction and not worth commenting on further.” A spokesman for Harry and Meghan did not respond to requests for comment.

According to Andersen, this is not the only recent scandal in the House of Windsor. The journalist investigates how Harry’s relatives worried about his haste to the altar and the alleged rift between the prince, his older brother, William, and their respective spouses, Meghan and Kate.

He explains how the quartet, once nicknamed “The Fab Four” for their joint charity work, now “hardly speak.”

Andersen writes that the serious accusation of racism is the main reason for the schism between William and Harry. But the author also claims that the situation was exacerbated by their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, who poured oil on the fire by making Harry feel “erased” by the royals.

Harry was reportedly crushed when his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, removed his family photo from the set of her 2019 Christmas address.

According to the book, in December 2019, the monarch allegedly asked a film crew to remove a portrait of Harry, Meghan and Archie before recording her traditional Christmas message to the people of Britain and its Commonwealth countries.

“[She] looked across the table where the photographs she had so lovingly selected were arranged, ”Andersen writes, noting that a dazzling picture of William, Kate and their children was included in the collection. “Everyone was fine except one, [the queen] told the director. “

According to the author’s source, the non-agent pointed to the picture of Harry, Meghan and baby Archie and said, “This one. I suppose we do not need it.”

‘What the hell do Harry and Meghan think they’re doing? My father will be furious. ‘

Prince William, after hearing about Megxit

A spokeswoman for the Queen told The Post: “We do not comment on books of this kind as it risks giving it some form of authority or credibility.” A representative of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had no comment.

William, who saw the address along with the rest of the family in Sandringham, the Queen’s country estate, was horrified when he realized the picture was gone. He knew that Harry – who had rejected his relatives by spending the holidays in Canada with Meghan, Archie and his mother-in-law – would be hurt.

He confided in Kate, explaining that his brother would probably be “terribly upset,” and she asked him to keep his worries to himself, at least for the moment.

But the little thing got Harry to tell one of his closest friends that he “felt like he, Meghan and Archie were deleted from the family” according to Andersen. ”

The royal family was first introduced to Meghan in July 2016, and Harry was worried about what his brother would think of his divorced girlfriend, according to a new book.

Although the Queen is known to have a “soft spot” for Harry, the book claims that her frosty gesture triggered his departure from royal life. In January 2020, Harry and Meghan left the institution forever.

The news of the breach was leaked to the British tabloids. In an effort to stay ahead of the news cycle, the Susssexes posted a statement on their Instagram page on January 8, 2020, confirming the stories and their decision to leave.

The message – which said they would “work to become financially independent” while continuing to “cooperate” with the Queen, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and “all relevant parties” – blinded the royals.

According to household staff employed by William at the time, the second in line to the throne was upset.

“What the hell do Harry and Meghan think they’re doing?” said William. “My father will be furious.”

He was right. Andersen writes that Camilla told a neighbor about Charles’ reaction to Megxit: “I have never seen him so angry before.”

The royal family was first introduced to Meghan after she started dating Harry in July 2016. The actress, one of the stars of the legal TV drama “Suits”, was on a longer trip to London when a friend set her up on a “blind” date “with the prince.

Prince Charles reportedly questioned the complexion of Meghan and Harry's future children, according to a new book, which also reflects on young Harry (from the left) and Williams' relationship with their deceased mother, Diana.

Love blossomed quickly, and Harry praised her virtues for his brother on every occasion. Nevertheless, Harry had previously worried about what William – who might be, Andersen writes, “very stiff” – would do to the divorced Meghan, for fear he would think she was “an opportunist.”

According to Andersen, William and Kate wanted a proper English rose for Harry. They were increasingly bothered by the flow of headlines about Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, a frankly retired TV lighting director who lived in Mexico

Unlike the older royals, who seemed content to ignore something awkward or unpleasant, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the book claims, were also “terrified” by the grim public warnings from Meghan’s alienated half-siblings, Samantha and Thomas Jr. – who predicted that Meghan would be a toxic addition to the family.

Thomas Jr. was particularly adept at beating his half-sister and told reporters, “She’s giving the best performance of her life.” In a scathing remark that must have stung William, the Oregonian said, “She thinks she’s another Princess Diana.”

“I do not know what to believe,” the book claims William confessed to a member of his circle.

He reportedly also raised red flags to his father, telling Charles that Harry’s obsession with Meghan was “like something I had never seen.” William went on to explain that “it feels like I’ve lost my best friend.”

Meanwhile, an astonished Harry, Andersen writes, became “angry” at anyone he perceived as “against Meghan” – a reaction that came to his head when William suggested that the newlywed couple should not rush headlong into the marriage.

“Who the hell do you think you are?” was Harry’s furious response according to the book. He was particularly offended that William had summoned their uncle – Earl Spencer, Princess Diana’s younger brother – to appeal to him to curb the courtship.

Harry joined Meghan on May 19, 2018 in St George’s Chapel, Windsor. Since that sunny day, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had Archie, now two, and Lilibet, who was born in June. Foursome lives in a $ 14.6 million mansion in Montecito, California, just a stone’s throw from Oprah Winfrey.

William and Harry, who had last seen each other before the start of the pandemic – at the tense showdown that finally mediated Megxit – were reunited under sad circumstances in April. All eyes were on the princes as they attended the funeral of their 99-year-old grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh.

While the brothers appeared friendly to each other in front of the cameras, Andersen describes that dynamic as a front.

“Unfortunately, the world had read too much into what was only a fleeting, heartfelt talk,” the author writes. After a meeting with William and Charles that “went nowhere,” Harry flew back to the United States to be with his pregnant wife. He returned to the United States a day before the 95th birthday of the recently deceased queen.

Then, on July 1, 2021, what would have been Princess Diana’s 60th birthday, the warring brothers met again at the inauguration of a statue of their mother in the garden of her former home, Kensington Palace.

This time, they kept more distance and gently pulled on two separate strings to reveal the memorial. As Andersen notes in his book: “When the moment came, it quickly and painfully became clear that nothing has changed.”

Perhaps it will be left to the women in their lives to set in motion the healing process. Kate – who allegedly once rejected Meghan’s well-meaning invitations to come and visit when they both lived in London – sent notes and gifts to her sister-in-law after she gave birth to Lilibet, Andersen writes.

This summer, when an admiring fan asked the upcoming queen if she had any greetings for Meghan and Harry’s new daughter, Kate’s response was warm and effervescent. “I wish her all the best,” she said. “I can not wait to meet her.”

Andersen reveals in his book how Diana, the adored mother of William and Harry, was finally able to find peace and truly let go of any bitterness towards the royal family before her death.

No doubt Diana would be crushed over what has happened. As she once said of her boys, “I do not want them to suffer as I did.”
