Pedophile former football coach Barry Bennell regularly organized Manchester City schoolboy trials, a former scout has told a Supreme Court judge.
Ray Hinett, 80, from Sandbach, Cheshire, told Mr. Justice Johnson that Bennell ‘sorted’ teams from City Test matches ‘regularly’.
He testified at a High Court trial in London under the supervision of Mr. Justice Johnson.
Eight men, now in their 40s and 50s, have made claims against Manchester City, saying Bennell abused them when they played football in the north-west of England more than 30 years ago.
They say Bennell worked as a City scout and wants compensation from the club.
The judge has heard that the eight men were sexually and emotionally abused by Bennell between 1979 and 1985 and is demanding compensation after suffering psychiatric injuries.
Six also claim compensation for loss of potential football revenue.
One has told the referee that Bennell carried a City phone card describing himself as the club’s Northwest representative.
The city disputes allegations made by the men.
Chiefs say Bennell had been a local scout in the mid-1970s, but was not a scout between 1979 and 1985.

Sir. Justice Johnson today saw a video that lawyers say was taken between 1982 and 1984 showing Bennell talking to boys playing in a match at City’s training ground.
Bennell said in a testimony that it ‘just so happened’ that he was there, a lawyer representing the eight men told the judge.
Sir. Hinett, who was a city scout at the time, said the footage showed Bennell at a rehearsal game with school students.
“He’s sorting the teams out,” Mr Hinett told the referee. ‘He did it on a regular basis. Usually it was Barry Bennell who arranged them. ‘
He said Bennell probably also played a role in deciding which boys to choose.
The judge has been told that Bennell, who worked as a coach at Crewe Alexandra, is serving a 34-year prison sentence in Littlehey Prison, Cambridgeshire, after being convicted of sexually abusing boys on five separate occasions – four in the UK and one. in USA.
Bennell is to testify via video link from the jail later this month.
