Just call her Ballen’s Belle.
Nicole Kidman channeled Old Hollywood glamor at the Los Angeles premiere of “Being the Ricardos” Monday night.
The 54-year-old actress wore a strapless Armani Privé ball gown in tulle with a sparkling girlfriend neckline, accessories with Jimmy Choo shoes, diamond jewelry and an Omega watch.
To keep things classic with his hair and makeup, Kidman combined his bright red lip with a smart updo.
The retro style was appropriate as Kidman stars as Lucille Ball in the upcoming Aaron Sorkin-directed biopic. While she has previously said that she almost changed her mind about playing the sitcom icon after the casting reaction, her performance is now generating Oscar buzz.
Two people who might not be in a hurry to look at? Kidman’s two daughters, Sunday, 13, and Faith, 10. She told Page Six at the film’s premiere in New York that they had not yet seen the long-awaited film, and she called them her “harshest critics.”
“They’re actually having no interest right now,” she said. “I say, ‘Do you want to come and see it?’ And they say, “No.”
The trailer for the film sees the natural redhead transform into Ball with thin eyebrows, retro styling and – what she called the “hardest” part – the star’s deep voice.
Javier Bardem, who plays Desi Arnaz, told TODAY that seeing Kidman as Ball for the first time made the set goalless.
“I did my test with the wardrobe, the hair, the makeup, and then she came in … and there was silence,” he said. “They really caught sight of Lucy Ricardo’s appearance, didn’t they?”
“Being the Ricardos” revolves around a tumultuous production week on “I Love Lucy” and the real drama between Ball and her husband Arnaz – both on screen and off. The film premieres in theaters on December 10 and will be available on Amazon Prime Video on December 21.
