Michelle Obama talks to college students during a virtual event

WASHINGTON – Former First Lady Michelle Obama is focusing on college students to promote her memoir “Becoming.”

The book has been out since 2018, and the publisher says it still sells more than 2,000 copies a week. It is also becoming part of the curriculum at several universities.

In an effort to reach more college students, Ms. Obama will join students from 22 schools across the country, including Prince George’s Community College, for a virtual conversation next Tuesday. She is joined by black star Yara Shahidi.

On top of that, the former First Lady’s publisher will donate 100 copies of “Becoming” to 12 schools in the Maryland Community College Consortium.

In a statement, Ms. Obama said she herself is a first-generation college student and she is eager to hear how students have coped during the pandemic.
