Manchester City are considering a deal with Barcelona for Raheem Sterling

Barcelona have reportedly gotten a big boost in the hunt for Raheem Sterling, with Manchester City unwilling to sell him to Arsenal.

According to a report from the Catalan business El Nacional, Manchester City are considering the possibility of negotiating with Barcelona for a deal for Raheem Sterling. The English national team player is also a target for Premier League rivals Arsenal, who are not favored for transfer negotiations by Citizens.

Raheem Sterling has come by leaps and bounds since joining Manchester City from Liverpool in the summer of 2015 in a controversial move. Now a player capable of producing world-class moments and winning matches on his own, the 26-year-old has been a key figure for club and country for the past few years.

But while he continues to go from strength to strength internationally, Sterling has suffered a dip in fortunes when it comes to his stature in Manchester City. 2021/22 has been a season to forget so far, where the English national team player only managed one goal and two assists in 14 games. However, it has not deterred potential suitors where Barcelona and Arsenal are hot on the track.

The interest from Barcelona makes sense, especially in the wake of the recent setback that Sergio Aguero has suffered. With the Argentine striker on the sidelines for the foreseeable future, Barcelona need to make at least one major addition to their attacking unit in the January transfer window.

Therefore, Sterling, capable of playing through the middle, is a viable target for the Catalan giants. In theory, the Englishman could create a dynamic attacking unit with Memphis Depay and Ansu Fati, making Sterling an appealing option for Barcelona. In return, Arsenal’s interest in the 26-year-old is interesting.

With Nicolas Pepe continuing to blow hot and cold this season, there is a sense that extra support for Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe could benefit Arsenal. This is where Sterling comes in, where the player is potentially a long-term solution for the Gunners.

However, Manchester City are hesitant to do business with Arsenal, while they have no qualms about dealing with Barcelona. So with Blaugrana gave a boost in the hunt for the English ace, it remains to be seen whether they manage to secure his services in January or whether he ends up joining another club instead.
