Man jailed for raping girl 7 in sexual assault in north London

A man has been jailed for rape and obscenity with a child after he was found guilty of historic sex offenses in north London.

Graham Harrison, 56, of Newport Street on the Isle of Wight, was found guilty of three counts of rape and two counts of indecency with a child following a two-week trial.

The crimes, which happened between 1979 and 1983, began when the victim was seven years old and involved Harrison, who raped her and made the child touch him when he was alone.

Harrison was between 14 and 17 years old when he committed the crimes, Wood Green Crown Court heard.

The victim reported to the police more than 35 years later and an investigation was launched.

After being found guilty by a unanimous verdict, Harrison was sentenced Friday, Sept. 17, to six years in prison.

DC Adam Downs praised the victim’s “strength and perseverance” and said the verdict is a reminder that it is never too late for historical sexual assault to be investigated.

“I would urge anyone who has been a victim to report it,” he continued.

“We will do everything we can to investigate so that the perpetrators are brought to justice and victims receive the appropriate support.

“We have specially trained officers who work closely with highly qualified, specialized and emphatic partners to ensure that anyone who has experienced rape or sexual assault can have the access they need.”
