A daily count of new cases revealed that two athletes tested positive in the village and one elsewhere. They come a day after an unidentified person, who was not a competitor, became the first case in the village.
Toshiro Muto, the director of the organizing committee of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, confirmed on Saturday that a visitor from abroad involved in the organization of the Games had tested positive. He declined to reveal the person’s nationality, citing privacy concerns, but said they had been quarantined for 14 days.
The positive cases will be a source of concern to organizers and the IOC, which had promised the village would be the “safest place” in Tokyo.
