CNN anchor Chris Cuomo returned from his “long-planned vacation” Monday, briefly addressing his departure from his brother, Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
“My brother, as you know, resigned as governor of New York and will stop next week,” Cuomo said gloomily to his viewers. “There are a lot of people who are feeling very hurt and a lot of pain right now. And my hope is that everyone involved can eventually get to a better place, that something higher good will be served in all this.”
CHRIS CUOMO AND HIS PROBLEMATIC YEAR ON CNN
“As for me, I’ve told you it’s never easy to be in this business and come from a political family, especially now. The situation is unlike anything I could have imagined. And yet I know what it means. something at work and at home.Everyone knows you support your family.I know and appreciate that you get it, but you also need to know that I never covered my brother’s problems because of course I have a conflict and there are rules on CNN about it, “Cuomo said. “I said last year that his appearances on this show would be short-lived, and they were. The last one was over a year ago, long before any kind of scandal. I also said at the time that there would come a day when he should be held to account and I can not do it. I said bluntly I can not be objective when it comes to my family so I never reported the scandal and when it happened I tried to be there for my sake brother.”
Cuomo assured his viewers, “I’m not an adviser, I’m a brother,” although he later confirmed earlier reports that he was urging his brother to resign.
“I was there to listen and offer my bid, and my advice to my brother was simple and consistent. Own what you did, tell people what you want to do to get better, be discouraged, and eventually accept that it no matter what you intended, the most important thing is how your actions and words were perceived, “Cuomo said. “There are critics who say things about me, many unsupported, but know that my attitude has never changed. I have never misled anyone about the information I provided or did not provide about this program. I have never attacked or called someone to attack any woman who came I never called the press about my brother’s situation I never influenced or tried to control CNN’s coverage of my family As you know back in May when I was asked no longer to communicate with my brother’s helpers in group meetings, I stopped and I meant it. “

“It was a unique situation to be a brother to a politician in a scandal and to be part of the media. I was trying to do the right thing and I just want you all to know. As I have said, we have rules here on CNN that prevent me from reporting on my brother. They stay in place and will continue to do so.Tonight I would simply address something that, given what has happened, I just felt that “it needed to be said. This will be my last word on it and I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to do so,” Cuomo added.
Cuomo lay down for several days after his brother stunned the political world by announcing his resignation just a week after New York Attorney General Letitia James published his condemnatory report outlining allegations of sexual harassment from 11 women.

The CNN anchor was also in trouble when he received special access to COVID tests provided by his brother’s administration, was caught attending strategy sessions with his brother’s best aides to fight the governor’s prosecutors, and even helped draft a statement for the alleged predator, according to the AG report.
