Negotiations on fishing licenses continue today (Monday) between the European Commission, France and the United Kingdom.
We have seen the first signs from the British authorities of speeding up the talks, and a response to the latest French proposals is expected on Wednesday.
I have also spoken to David Frost, the British Minister responsible for relations with the European Union. I have invited him to Paris on Thursday for an in-depth discussion on the problems of implementing the agreements between the EU and the UK.
In order to facilitate open discussions, the measures announced and drawn up by France will not be implemented until this meeting and until the UK’s responses to the issuance of fishing licenses have been considered.
