Galaxy Note 20 series December 2022 security update is a go

Samsung’s been a little slow to start rolling out the latest security fixes to its devices since last month, no doubt because it’s focusing on setting a record that may end up being unbreakable. Like November’s security update, the December 2022 security update debuted on Galaxy devices later than you would expect, but Samsung is slowly picking up the pace.

Samsung has updated the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the Galaxy S20 series, and the Galaxy A90 5G with the December security patch over the last couple of days, and it is now updating the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The December security update is rolling out to the Galaxy Note 20 series in a number of European countries and will probably reach countries in other continents in the near future.

The update comes with firmware version N98xxXXS5GVK9 and the only new thing it brings are the latest security fixes for both Android and Samsung’s customized version of it. The update is based on Android 13, which shouldn’t come as a surprise as the Galaxy Note 20 series is running the newest version of the operating system in most — if not every country — by now.

As always, your phone will automatically present you with a notification once the update is available in your country, although you can skip the wait and check for the update yourself by tapping the Download and install option in your Galaxy Note 20 or Note 20 Ultra’s Settings » Software update menu. Downloading the new firmware from our archive and installing it on your phone using a Windows PC is also an option.
