During a red carpet interview with Extra correspondent Terry Serymour, Theron shared that her two children don’t necessarily view their mother’s major career in Hollywood as that big of a deal.

‘They just think of this as work,’ said Theron. ‘I don’t think any of this makes sense to them.’

Theron has two adopted daughters: 10-year-old Jackson and seven-year-old August.

The Young Adult star went on to describe how she recently pushed her daughters out of their comfort zone during a summer film shoot in Rome.

‘It was summer break and they just kinda, like, didn’t want to do anything,’ Theron explained.

Charlize described how her two girls begrudgingly did some ‘half-a**ed’ activities, leading the formidable star to declare: ‘You just need to have a backbone.’

The renowned actress and producer opened up about various women who have helped to strengthen her own backbone with ‘blunt’ wisdom.

Four-time Oscar Winner Frances McDormand, 65, gave Theron the best advice of her career: ‘Don’t take any s**t.’

Another inspirational figure in Theron’s life and career has been legendary Hollywood executive Sherry Lansing, 78, who stands as one of Charlize’s ‘biggest mentors.’

‘I am here today because of women like her,’ Theron said of Lansing.

But the Long Shot star reserved her ultimate praise for her mother Gerda, who shot Theron’s alcoholic father in self-defense after he drunkenly threatened them both with a gun in 1991.

Raving about her mother, Theron declared: ‘If I didn’t do something with my life, I would have been a waste to humanity, just purely being bred and raised by that trailblazer.’
