Coalville firefighters tweeting about the incident said: “We attended a road traffic collision this morning involving one lorry and three vehicles on the A42 junction 13 to 12.

“Luckily the drivers of all the vehicles were wearing seat belts!”

The road had to be fully closed to northbound traffic throughout the morning rush hour, which left hundreds of vehicles trapped behind the scene of the crash for a few hours.

As passing motorists slowed to look at the collision, there were also some delays on the southbound side, which affected the roundabout at Ashby, slowing traffic heading east to west on the A511.

Leicestershire Police said the casualty’s injuries were not believed to be either life-threatening or life-changing and there were no other reports of any significant injuries.
