Australian swim coach charged with 20 more child sex abuse offenses

An Australian swimming coach who was last year extradited from Western Australia on alleged child sex abuse offenses has been charged with a further 20 offenses.

John Reginald Wright, 78, appeared in Bunbury Court in Western Australia in October last year and was later extradited to Queensland on nine counts of indecent dealing with a child and one count of common assault.

Police have since laid an additional 20 charges relating to indecent treatment of a child, after other alleged victims came forward to make formal complaints.

Police said Mr Wright on Wednesday was served a notice to appear to face the 20 charges.

He is currently in custody and scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on March 14.

Mr Wright’s initial nine charges were related to alleged indecent dealing offenses that took place between 1980 and 1986 in the Brisbane and Rockhampton areas.

Police are encouraging any other potential victims or anyone else with knowledge of this matter to come forward.
